A mile from my house, on a hill overlooking the Fens, lies an isolated patch of Cotswold limestone. From thence came the stone and slates to build many of the walls and roofs of the surrounding villages, and now the grassed-over hummocks and dells are a nature reserve of the Northamptonshire Wildlife Trust. It is called The Deeps, and I am its warden. Warden of the Deeps.
