British Tree Aphids – Natural History and Conservation

The 'lice' that Major A J Rix, Canadian Royal Artillery (Retired), was cursing more than 50 years ago were in fact the Green Spruce Aphid, Elatobium abietinum, which was yellowing and defoliating the great spruces on the coast of British Columbia. The Major's opinion of aphids is widely echoed today, among agriculturalists, foresters and gardeners.
